Ears Wide Open: 7Horse

1

The cosmic country-meets-dirty blues of the nascent duo 7Horse is not, as one of their songs might suggest, the sound of two guys on a “Low Fuel Drug Run.” It is, however, the the psychedelic excursion of two veteran players eager to take flight while their main band idles on the runway. The new album “Let the 7Horse Run” is the brainchild of drummer-singer Phil Leavitt and guitarist-singer Joie Calio, two-third of the beloved pop band Dada, which despite occasional successful tours has not released any new music since 2006. 7Horse’s boozy, harmonica-spiked songs conjure up long nights and uneasy mornings in the remote desert, but whether you’re delirious from the heat (or something else) or just hankering to kick up some dust, it’s stomping good fun.
