For those who closely follow the music scene in Portland, Ore., Matt Sheehy is not a new name. Some may know him as one half of the band Gravity and Henry while others may have seen him on stage with Kaki King or Ramona Falls. Sheehy has also released solo material before, but his new sounds under the moniker Lost Lander have turned some heads. After collaborating with each other on previous projects, Sheehy and Brent Knopf (of Ramona Falls and formerly of Menomena) have decided to exclusively work with each other on an album titled “DRRT,” slated for Jan. 24 release, and under Knopf’s production the pieces have come together. Those signature vibes and looping techniques we’ve heard in Menomena tracks have made their subtle imprints while Sheehy’s combination of bold melodies and vocal intimacy have been enhanced. With a band that now includes Patrick Hughes, Dave Lowensohn and Sarah Fennell, Lost Lander’s future sounds promising despite the pessimistically titled single “Cold Feet.” Tribal percussion, sliding bass lines and sparkling keys already mark this friendship as a musical success.
