Mp3-pack: Frankie Rose, Field Mouse, Fan-Tan

[Brooklyn edition: A few East coast dream-pop rockers we wish had some West coast tour dates.]

Frankie Rose, “Know Me” – Although Frankie Rose bounced around from band to band during 2008 when bands started paying homage to the C86 era (Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls), her solo material was still released under the moniker Frankie Rose and the Outs. Now she returns with the follow-up, “Interstellar” (out Feb. 21 via Slumberland Records), and it’s released under her name only. With one listen to its first single, it’s hard to blame her for wanting to claim this track all on her own. Lush dream-pop, with layers – “Know Me” is great.

Field Mouse, “You Guys Are Gonna Wake Up My Mom” – Field Mouse’s name may sound a little too much like Sarah Records legends the Field Mice, but no matter. Both bands beautifully fall in to the pop realm with Rachel Browne’s silky vocals enveloping Andrew Futral’s riveting guitar riffs. Touching on shoegaze and a bit of power-pop with bassist Allison Weiss and drummer Geoff Lewit, these newbies should have no trouble selling out that new 7-inch they’ve got coming in February via Small Plates Records. “You Guys Are Gonna Wake Up My Mom” may be a mouthful of a song title, but the arrangement fills up every corner there is in dream-pop.

Fan-Tan, “1989” – So, Fan-Tan may be considered more post-punk than dream-pop but their track “1989” shimmers in a similar way in which Letting Up Despite Great Faults songs do. Even with synth-oriented new wave elements at the forefront, their music embodies a warm glow. The trio’s forthcoming album “A Strange Game” is slated for a Spring release via Goodnight Records, and if the rest of it sounds anything like this single, there will be more to talk about.
