Ears Wide Open: Jasmine Ash

by seraphina on February 20, 2012

Jasmine Ash is mostly known for being the frontwoman and main songwriter for L.A. indie pop band Oh Darling. She recently stepped out on her own for a solo debut titled “Beneath The Noise,” and here her pop sensibility shines the brightest yet. Although Ash’s feather-light high register always seems to trickle a sweet layer upon her quirky arrangements, her single “Give a Little Less” flashes a glimpse of loneliness as she sings “It’s never gonna get any better than this.” The juxtaposition of shimmering riffs and slight despair doesn’t last for too long, though. “It’s a momentary feeling,” Ash says of the song and her final lyrics “Someday, somewhere, you’ll see stars” caps the song off with hope. Produced and co-written by Jacques Brautbar and Sam Farrar (both formerly of of Phantom Planet), “Beneath the Noise” is out now.
