Ethan Gold, the San Francisco-bred songwriter whose 2011 album “Songs From a Toxic Apartment” was praised by Pitchfork for its “unfiltered, glaring legibility,” joins soulful trio The Record Company, singer-songwriter Laura Meyer and the Brett Farkas vehicle Boys School at Buzz Bands LA’s monthly songwriter night at Lot 1 Cafe in Echo Park (RSVP at link).
The April 10 show starts at 9 p.m. A $5 donation, proceeds from which go to the artists, is requested.
The Record Company is a relative newbie to the scene but have impressed with their unvarnished soul. Laura Meyer is a remarkable (and remarkably hard-touring) songstress whose music took her to nine countries before she settled in L.A. last year. Her latest album “Golden Delicious” was inspired by the Occupy movement. Brett Farkas (Boys School, f/k/a Boyz Skule) has played with myriad artists and is working on a follow-up album to his 2010 EP.
