Gallery: The Wombats, Static Jacks and the Neighbourhood at the El Rey Theatre

If you listen hard enough, there’s a subversive side to the Wombats‘ infectious guitar pop. But you’d never know it from the energy Tuesday night at the El Rey Theatre, where the Liverpool trio gave a show that was all about exuberance. The tunes from the band’s sophomore album “This Modern Glitch” might as well have been caffeine for the young crowd, which warmed up with sets from New jersey’s the Static Jacks and SoCal quintet the Neighbourhood, the latter of whom were playing their first proper L.A. show to an audience peppered with industry types who are wooing the band based on their first two singles and the release this week of their debut EP, “I’m Sorry.” Photographer Laurie Scavo shares this gallery.
