[Today, just in time for your Sunday afternoon pool party, Buzz Bands LA welcomes a new contributing writer, Jonathan Buchanan. A Los Angeles-bred writer and DJ, Jonathan will be posting on various topics for BBLA, especially electronic music.]
When it’s warm at night, a seductive, retro dance-track always hits the spot. A good funk bass-line, poly-rhythms and beautifully cascading synths all collide to create something hypnotic. Wes James is a native Angeleno who, under the moniker Le Youth, uses retro-synths to celebrate sex, sun, and the intrinsic tranquility of summertime in Los Angeles. “Memories” is appropriately titled. It’ll conjure up Jan Hammer, steamy dance spots and Patrick Nagel artwork. Le Youth’s Night Swimming Mix is one of the best “made for summer mixtapes” you’ll come across, and it features a very cool, unreleased track, “Keep it Hot,” also well titled.
