Ears Wide Open: Hello Echo

0

There’s something in the let-it-rip methods of L.A.-based Hello Echo that will appeal to fans of the edgy alternative rockers of the 1990s as well as exuberant nu-folkies of today. Singer-guitarist Sean Alyward, who once toiled for the mid-aughts buzz band Apollo Sunshine, has found a happy place between garage-rock, surf-pop and Americana; the band’s “Coffee Cups” EP (out this week) has a couple come-out-of-your-shoes moments that made us dart back to 2010 for their “Hello” debut album (which somehow we’d completely missed). Alyward and fellow Bostonians Mike Sarno on bass and Mike Silva on drums and vocals are clearly having fun having sunk their roots in Santa Monica. Nice of them to share.
