In April, we introduced Field Report – the nom de tune of Chris Porterfield, the Wisconsin songwriter who once upon a Midwestern moon played with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and the men from Megafaun in a band called DeYarmond Edison. Past associations might have cracked a few doors, but Porterfield’s songs have flung them wide open. Field Report’s debut album, recorded at Vernon’s studio and due Sept. 11 on Partisan Records, reveals Porterfield as a charismatic storyteller whose lush and lyrically rich tunes have a timeless feel. Gorgeous.
