Perhaps titling a forthcoming album “Developer” is a good way to push the band into new territories. At least that’s what has seemed to work for San Francisico-based band Social Studies. Formerly boasting bright indie-pop gems on their 2010 album “Wind Up Wooden Heart,” Natalia Rogovin, Michael Jirkovsky, Jesse Hudson, Tom Smith and Ben McClintock have all crawled out of their comfort zones and present a moody, stripped-down tune with a hint of synth for their new single, “Terracur.” Rogovin’s vocals are a strong anchor for the tune and Hudson’s high harmonies also provide a nice contrast. Here’s hoping the record (which drops Nov. 13 on Antenna Farm Records) follows suit.
