Above: The Heavy are back with another album of dirty funk ’n’ soul. It’s titled “The Glorious Dead,” and dynamo frontman Kelvin Swaby brings his U.K. crew back to Los Angeles this week for a date at the El Rey Theatre. That’s the video for the band’s single “What Makes a Good Man.”

@KRBronson recommends: There’s a whole lotta psych-rock going on at the Echo and Echoplex on Saturday, as the one-day Echoes West festival brings a kaleidoscopic lineup including Dead Meadow, Lords Of Altamont, Strawberry Alarm Clock, SLEEP ∞ OVER, Spindrift, Sterling Roswell (of Spaceman 3), Gram Rabbit, Silver Chords, Electric Flower Group, Strangers Family Band, United Ghosts and Wake Up Lucid. That’s big value for $18.
@Seraphina_L recommends: Mini Mansions, Line & Circle and Harriet at the Central SAPC. A few of L.A.’s strongest bands will be teaming up at the Santa Monica venue for a solid night of music. Headliner Mini Mansions will be touting songs off their new B -sides EP, “… Besides …,” and Jesse Kivel (Kisses/Princeton) will be spinning tunes throughout the night.
