Video: The Vaccines, ‘Teenage Icon’

The Vaccines‘ new album “The Vaccines Come of Age” is boldly titled, but has the U.K. quartet really come of age? Well, they now have songs that are longer than 2 minutes and they’ve gone beyond the hook with their songwriting this time around. But there’s still this aloofness that Justin Young, Freddie Cowan, Arni Arnason and Pete Robertson are all really good at maintaining. No matter how much they’ve grown as musicians, they’re still writing songs about how they “don’t care.” Their second single “Teenage Icon” boasts the lyrics “I’m not teenage icon/I’m no Frankie Avalon/I’m nobody’s hero” in the chorus, and perhaps that apathy is what still makes them so rock ’n’ roll. One does, however, get to see the band as teens (and females) thanks to some time warp during an attempt to change the meaning of elevator music in their latest music video.

Came back to this post after seeing them and it’s definitely my favorite song I’ve heard so far. I’ll try to resist the stream on their website until Tuesday.
