Stream: LexiconDon, ‘City Lies’

LexiconDon tackles the melodrama that is life in L.A. on their new single “City Lies.” A skeletal pop track backed by a blunt, industrial drum machine, the new song – the third new track since June from the synth-pop team of Alex Koons and Fabian Ordorica and guitarist Sam Gabbard – is a guitar-driven departure similar to their recent release, “Burn.” They’re drifting a bit further from the synth-dominated material of their 2010 album “Pink +Blue.” While far from groundbreaking, “City Lies” signals a transitional phase for the band as they, and presumably a few of their Binary Entertainment label-mates, begin to explore new territory. In the case of LexiconDon, the smooth and easy transition into what sounds like indie dance-rock with a hint of electronica has been overwhelmingly impressive, creating beautiful, pop singles ready for a John Hughes soundtrack.
