Ears Wide Open: Pretend Electric

1

L.A. four-piece Pretend Electric is aiming big. The tunes on the quartet’s debut EP “Entraînant,” which came out in September, sound as if they could have been plucked from the soundtrack to Indie Rock Guitar Hero, if there were such a thing. You want anthems that can make stadium sway? “The County” and “Casino” will help. You want guitar-stings that imagine Isaac Brock crashing your house party? “Mirrors” and “Kamchatka Corner” could be for you. You want it done with the energy of people who can’t wait to get out of their practice space? It’s evident as soon as their gang vocals kick in – Chris Newell, Ian McAllister, Mike Crankshaw and Takuma Ieto could be your guys.
