Video: Foxygen, ‘San Francisco’

Foxygen, the psychedelic duo of Sam France and Jonathan Rado, made a big splash with their “Take the Kids Off Broadway” EP last year, the momentum from which has made their forthcoming full-length “We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic” (out Jan. 22 via Jagjaguwar) one of 2013’s most anticipated albums. Originally from Los Angeles, Foxygen is now based out of both New York and Olympia, Wash., but their sound is still as free-wheeling as the next Californian hippie. With arrangements doused in Ariel Pink eccentricity, pop vocals delivered in an MGMT manner, and an image that recalls a youthful Mick Jagger, Foxygen pleases just about every modern bohemian-inclined music-lover. New songs like “Shuggie” are winningly exuberant despite its genre and tempo-spastic structures, “No Destruction” is toned down a bit with a saloon foundation, and “San Francisco” sways like a gentle lullaby – all tunes Richard Swift (who produced the new record) fans will find interesting.
