‣ We have every reason to believe that the performance billed “Looking For Sugarman” at the Hotel Cafe is indeed an appearance by the now-legendary Rodriguez, the 70-year-old singer-songwriter and subject of the award-winning documentary “Searching for Sugar Man.” Later at the Hotel Cafe, the crafty pop-rock quartet Your Futures Lovers plays the late set. We can relate to their tune “This Song on the Radio” X.
‣ Steve Earle & Alison Moorer team up for a night of music at UCLA’s Royce Hall, with L.A. quartet the Living Sisters (who last week released a new covers EP) supporting.
‣ British hitmakers Keane hold forth at the Pantages Theatre, with local quintet Youngblood Hawke opening.
‣ And veteran psych-rockers the Warlocks are back, playing a show at the Bootleg Bar along with Cosmonauts and Beach Party. There’s a good early show at the Bootleg too, featuring Jennifer O’Connor and Chris Brokaw of Codeine.
Special note: The long-running monthly club night Dragstrip66 says goodbye at the Echoplex. There’s a documentary in the works on the night and the people behind one of the most fun, diverse parties around L.A.
