Pageants_2013

Rebecca Coleman and her band mates in Pageants have taken things slowly since they first emerged in 2011. The 21-year-old singer-guitarist and founding member of Avi Buffalo, along with guitarist Devin O’Brien and drummer Dylan Wood, has cultivated her strummy, laid-back West Coast pop in live show after live show, Pageants’ calling card – Coleman’s plaintive, emotionally forthright vocals – growing stronger with each outing. “Musings of the Tide,” the 7-inch the band self-released this week, reveals Pageants in all their fuzzy, melancholy finery. Pageants’ early demos were made with Best Coast’s Bobb Bruno, and while there are some sonic similarities, Coleman’s vivid lyrics give her trio’s songs the writerly feel of the likes of Taken by Trees, the Sundays and Mazzy Star. All the better to muse to.
