themo-oddsThe Mo-Odds’ new EP is over in the time it takes most guitar bands to tune their axes. The four songs on “Soto” ” clock in at under nine minutes, but as many in the garage-rock revival have shown, you don’t have don’t have to linger for 4 1/2 minutes to make a strong impression. The Mo-Odds’ concise blasts of ’60s-derived garage-blues recall the Yardbirds and Iggy & the Stooges, and on “Soto” – recorded at Infrasonic Studios by Eric Palmquist (Wavves, Aloe Blacc) – some of the sextet’s rough edges have been sanded away, albeit without sacrificing any of their songs’ guts and glory. The band – Jonah Evans, Christopher Mowod, Benny Toth, Tony Olowsky, Craig Wellik and Joel Dickman – are known around town for their frenetic live performances; depending on the size of your speakers and the the mood you’re in during “Soto,” you might be inspired to do some damage yourself.
