Hanni El Khatib, “Penny”Expanding from a two-piece to four and expanding his sound palette too, Hanni El Khatib will release his second album, the Dan Auerbach-produced “Head in the Dirt” on April 30. While the first single “Family” showcased the shredder that we heard on 2001’s “Will the Guns Come Out,” the new song “Penny” is something different. It even made the Wall Street Journal. Next: April 14 and April 21 at Coachella.

After the jump, five more new songs for your hungry ears:

The Lonely Wild, “Everything You Need” – The Lonely Wild’s long-awaited debut “The Sun As It Comes” comes out on Tuesday, and like “Buried in the Murder” this track reveals the quintet’s gorgeous widescreen Americana – cinematic rock with boy/girl/gang harmonies, urgent rhythms and the occasional horn. Record release show: Friday night at the Satellite.

Fol Chen, “I.O.U.” – As with “200 Words,” the first song leaked from their third album “The False Alarms” (out last week via Asthmatic Kitty), the L.A. art-pop collective toys with the mind and ears on this single. Record release show: Friday night at the Bootleg.

Broadheds, “Pick Me Up” – Maybe the most surprising release of the new year, “Broadheds” (out April 9) is the brainchild of Dangerbird Records chief Peter Walker (who fronted Eulogies for three albums between 2007 and ’11). It’s ska-punk revival featuring bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen, drummer Denny Weston Jr. and saxophonist James King. Thirteen songs, 29 minutes, including “Nothing That I Care About.” Next: April 9 at the Bootleg Bar with Eastern Conference Champions.

Bleached, “Dead in Your Head” – We name-checked some of the artists at the roots of Bleached when we shared “Next Stop.” Here’s another song off the Clavin sisters “Ride Your Heart,” out next week on Dead Oceans. Next: May 8 at the Troubadour.

Freedom Fry, “With the New Crowd” – Bruce Driscoll (the brother half of sibling duo Blondire) and his Parisian girlffiend Marie Seyrat have made another EP since we fell for their first one, “Outlaws.” “Friends and Enemies,” out Tuesday, offers another dose of their engaging boy/girl pop. Stream it all here. Next: April 24 at the Echo.
