Ears Wide Open: Panthar

If the first single from Panthar doesn’t get you out of your seat, might we suggest some sort of electric prod? “Ghost Rocket” is a glammy new-wave rave-up with the kind of surging guitars liable to induce visions of, as the lyrics say, a “radium light shower.” The new L.A. quintet was founded by singer Sheila Louise, drummer Jared Caldwell and guitarist Douglas Hargrave. Now joined by bassist Colin Ambulance and keyboardist Lauren Kop, Panthar worked with producer/engineer Mark Rains, whose credits include Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Neon Trees, Robert Francis, Rival Sons and Shooter Jennings. With the noisy, riot grrrl-inspired B-side “Space Lies,” the single will be released Feb. 17 via New Professor Music.
