When a member of a cool band announces a solo record, a few things come to mind. One, “Oh my, does that mean the band is breaking up?” Two, “Where did she find time to do this?” And, three, when the panic subsides, “So that’s what it’s like inside her musical brain.” The likely explanation is that Warpaint’s Jennylee, aka Jenny Lee Lindberg, simply wanted to express her own ideas without having to meet expectations or compromise, and there’s no cause for alarm, unless that alarm is just a squeal of curiosity. “Never” is a shoegazey slice from “Right On!,” her upcoming Dec. 11 release on Rough Trade Records. According to the snippets featured in her album trailer, she has not limited herself to one particular style of song. In addition to the bass-driven rocking stuff, she dips into some light goth, even some R&B vibes, and more surprises that come with freedom to do whatever, all the while dancing with herself.
