Ears Wide Open: Steady Holiday

When Dre Babinski left her gig as a side player in Hunter Hunted last year, it marked a new chapter for the singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist: She’d mustered the mettle to set off on her own after stints the violinist/vocalist in Dusty Rhodes & the River Band, the foil for Jarrod Gorbel’s live solo show (in his pre-Night Terrors of 1927 days) and a partnership with Edson Choi in the duo Miracle Days. Now Babinski is on a Steady Holiday and has unveiled the first song from her forthcoming album “Getting There.” It’s titled “Your Version of Me,” and if there’s such a thing as “space-twee,” this is it. Here, amid minor-chord melancholy and dreamy effects, Babinski in her fragile voice sings about the uneasy feeling of seeing yourself through someone else’s eyes — and liking it better. The album, produced by Gus Seyffert, will be out in 2016.
