It is typically in a plaintive voice that Dre Babinski metes out inner truths and outer perspicacity as Steady Holiday. And it is with an almost alarming nonchalance that she guides you to the edge in the video for the new single, “The Balance.”
The video, directed by frequent Steady Holiday collaborator Isaac Ravishankara, is inspired by the cliff scenes in “Pride and Prejudice” and “Thelma and Louise.” “‘The Balance’ is about learning from mistakes, setting boundaries and knowing your limitations,” Babinski says. “It contains a lot of universal truths that I needed to remind myself of when I wrote it, not necessarily ones I live by. It’s aspirational in that way.”
The song is the latest from “Newfound Oxygen,” the fourth Steady Holiday full-length, out Feb. 17. It was made in collaboration with songwriter-producer Ari Balouzian (Gabriels, Midnight Sister), and Steady Holiday recently announced an intimate show March 15 to celebrate the release.
