Oakland sextet Waterstrider straddles the line between cinematic psych-pop and frolicsome Afro-pop, having found their groove a couple of years ago and are now poised for bigger things with the release their new album “Nowhere Now.” In singer-guitarist Nate Salman’s sweet falsetto, L.A. fans might hear echoes of Local Natives, or a less agitated James Supercave, and the lush but meticulous instrumentation from Salman’s bandmates — Scott and Drew Brown, Walker Johnson, Alycia Lang and Brijean Murphy — make the album a dreamy affair. Waterstrider is one of the first signings to 30th Century Records, the new album launched by Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse) inconjunciton with Columbia. The coming year will see 30th Century release a new album from L.A.’s Autolux as well. A 30th Century Records compilation will be out Dec. 18, with tunes from Autolux, Apache Sun, the Arcs, Sam Cohen, Nine Pound Shadow and Waterstrider.
