Midwestern singer-songwriter Lissie has released the first single from her upcoming third studio album “My Wild West,” due Feb. 12 through her own label, Lionboy Records. Written in reflection of her life in California before heading back to the Quad Cities, “Don’t You Give Up On Me” is an upbeat folk-pop song that fans have come to expect from the adopted Californian. According to Lissie, “The song is a plea to God or to a person or to whomever to hang in there with me while I figure it out. There’s a line in the song ‘I left you on the coast for something only I can see’ and that’s just it. I have a personal vision and it may be hard for others to understand at times but I have to follow it.” This is certainly a relatable sentiment for any millennial trying to find themselves, at least for those who can’t afford a trip to Europe.

“My Wild West” is Lissie’s personal ode to California recorded with a team consisting of producer Curt Schneider in Studio City, her band in Ojai, and Bill Reynolds in Nashville. “Hero” takes the Wild West concept a little more literally, with western-style horns and sprinkled-in twangy guitars. The video features an adorable young heroine playing dress up as a super hero (a breath of fresh air from the typical princess stereotype) fighting the most nonthreatening of villains — fluffy little blobs. She beats the fuzzy little creatures, winning the battle and her way into our hearts, just as Lissie promises to do on her most personal album yet.
