Marion Belle’s latest creation as Fatal Jamz came to him while cruising around the west side in a black ’96 Mercedes S320 with bulletproof windows and a “thugged out” sound system, dreaming up storylines of love wrapped in fashion. Lolipop Records just released the EP, “Obsession,” in anticipation of a full-length coming this spring. Co-produced by Belle and Nic Johns of Kitten in a sixth-floor analog “penthouse” above Skid Row, lead song “Jean Paul Gaultier” is a glam-pop fantasy, subliminally elevated by a bass line reminiscent of Madonna’s “Material Girl.” It’s for anyone that adorns themselves in junk jewelry and pulls it off like a million bucks, for designer hand-me-downs trailing loose beads like bread crumbs, for “chasing redemption and immortality in L.A.”
