The Electric West

L.A. post-punk outfit The Electric West stay dark and DIY on “Death Birds,” their first new music since last year’s “Verdugo” EP. “I was digging through bones / Stumbled on my own,” sings bassist Lee Lewallen on the gothy new single, which take-no-prisoners drummer Byron Pagdilao calls “a very personal song for the band because of the tumultuous year we had.” How difficult was it? “To keep it short, the song is about dealing with the demons we had to face and try to make something positive out of it,” Pagdilao adds. The Electric West’s icy, foreboding wall of sound was forged with collaborator/producer Joseph Calliero. While you root for blue-collar bands like the Electric West to handle whatever challenges come their way, they do dark and gloomy awfully well.
