It’s been two years since Young the Giant released their edgier sophomore album, “Mind Over Matter,” produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, M83) and evidence that the success of their self-titled debut wasn’t just a glitch. The O.C .natives have been consistently impressing audiences long before any of them could drink … legally, anyway. Their sweeping musical arrangements, effervescent live shows and the robust vocals of the oh-so-dreamy Sameer Gadhia have been blowing minds and dropping panties since they were The Jakes building up a following in L.A. and O.C. After a few teases on social media, they’ve released a new single, “Amerika,” as a preview to their upcoming album, “Home of the Strange,” due Aug. 12 via Fueled By Ramen. The track is mellow and incorporates some new electronic elements, but definitely holds true to the classic Young The Giant sound fans know and love. It will be interesting to see what else these locals have up their sleeves.
