GØGGS,
GØGGS,

Stop the presses, Ty Segall is in a new band and ØMG it has a “slashed o” in the name. The incredibly prolific rocker, who’s seemingly never had a musical idea that hasn’t been recorded and released, joins with Chris Shaw (Ex-Cult) and Charles Moothart (Fuzz, et al) in GØGGS, which debuted with the rip-snorting single “She Got Harder” last fall and this week announced that a self-titled full-length would be out July 1 via In the Red Records. The album also features contributions from Cory Hanson, Mikal Cronin and Denée Petracek. Along with that news comes the Shaw-fronted rocker “Glendale Junkyard” [which could be about a certain blogger’s suburban L.A. writing headquarters]. It hits hard, moves fast and leaves a mark, and 22 years from now when Segall and his 432 collaborators are sorting through his 1,725-song catalog to choose a setlist for his 50th birthday party show, this might make the cut.

Speaking of setlists and anniversaries, both Segall and GØGGS are playing a three-day festival July 14-16 at the Echo and Echoplex in July to celebrate 25 years of In the Red Records. Segall and Mikal Cronin will be performing their 2009 collaborative album “Reverse Shark Attack” — but the bigger news is that blues-punk outfit Boss Hog will be doing their first L.A. show in 15 years. The Gories will make an overdue visit to L.A. as well, and the festival will also feature the likes of the Oblivians, Meatbodies, Wand and Cheater Slicks.

Three-day passes (GA) for the festival are $58.50 and available here. Single-day passes will be available (no details yet), and more artists are expected to be added.
