Iconoclastic British experimental band Psychic TV highlighted Friday’s opening night of Berserktown 3, the festival devoted to (in general) the sounds of the underground. Led by singer Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, who noted the band were “playing beautiful songs tonight,” Psychic TV performed their their 1982 debut “Force the Hand of Chance.” [Excellent background here.] The Teragram Ballroom was slow to fill until the headliners went on, but early arrivals witnessed eclectic performances from the likes of Denmark’s First Hate, Mueran Humanos (who earned an enthusiastic response from their all-in-Spanish set), Chicago’s Yoko and the Oh No’s and L.A.’s Sextile. The night’s closer, Russel Haswell, performed by crouching to manipulate sounds on a small electronic network, standing only to sip his drink.
