Kid Cadaver’s new single “Personal Addict” — their first of this year, following their “Roam” EP and a couple of singles in 2015 — is a bittersweet pop song about dependency. Not so sobering, however, is the L.A. “neon pop” trio’s video for the song, which transports singer-guitarist Ray Venta, bassist Jeremy Harris and drummer Kenzo Cardenas back to 1997. In the video, made by Lupe Bustos, a friend invites them to a Halloween party, where typical Halloween shenanigans ensue. Cardenas, the poor guy, is the band’s whipping boy, but in the spirit of fine slasher films everywhere, he ends up being the one with a glint in his eye. “The fun ’90s vibe was meant to offset the more serious tone and subject matter in ‘Personal Addict,’” the band says. “Honestly, it was all just a reason for Kenzo to wear a dress. That dude really likes to wear dresses.”
