A little over a year after songwriter Hether Fortune’s post-divorce bloodletting coagulated in the album “American Tragic,” Bay Area-bred Wax Idols have returned with a new single, “Everybody Gets What They Want.” It’s the first song from a new album “Happy Ending,” due in the spring of 2017, which Fortune described to SPIN as a concept album about a “protagonist who has died and yet for some reason retains consciousness. Everyone thinks you’re dead, but you can see and observe and hear everything still.” The song has a dark post-punk/new wave vibe reminiscent of artists like Siouxsie/Pretenders/Concrete Blonde, and some rather gleefully macabre lyrics. It will be the band’s fourth album and first on their own label, Estrucan Gold Records.
