Hand Habits is the nom de tune of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of Meg Duffy, a native of upstate New York who has matriculated west and could most recently be found as a guitarist-vocalist in Kevin Morby’s band. Duffy’s debut for the Woodsist label is titled “Wildly Idle (Humble Before the Void),” out Feb. 10, a bouquet of bedroom pop that got its start in New York and saw its completion in L.A. Morby himself compares Hand Habits the likes of Grouper, Jessica Pratt and Little Wings, and indeed the first three songs revealed from the album have that seductive intimacy, but with Duffy’s own lyrical intricacies and plaintive vocals. Like reading poetry while saving a warm bath, or something like that. Slow down and linger.
