If you’re looking for signs of a silver lining to 2017, here’s one: Spoon will release a new album, “Hot Thoughts,” on March 17 via Matador Records. The album, the Austin indie-rockers’ ninth, marks the return of the band to the label that released its 1996 debut “Telephono.” Co-produced by the estimable Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, OK Go, Mercury Rev, MGMT, among others), it’s being advertised as Spoon’s “most sonically inventive work” and includes the song “I Ain’t the One,” part of which turned up recently in Showtime’s “Shameless.” The album release will be preceded by a three-night hometown residency during SXSW at the former site of Emo’s (now called “The Main”), which in a nod to Spoon drummer Jim Eno will be rechristened “Eno’s” from March 14-16.
