When Andrew Clinco became possessed by the persona of Deb DeMure, his muse-slash-alter-ego, it’s clear the alien goths of outer space were giving this earth man a gift. Working under the moniker Drab Majesty, DeMure released “Careless” in 2015, and tomorrow, Jan. 20, sees the release of “The Demonstration,” which was produced by Telefon Tel Aviv‘s Josh Eustis and comes out on Dais Records. The second single from the record, “Too Soon To Tell,” completely satisfies that hankering for a fix of 1980s -feeling goth pop, everything is in its right place, haunted vocals, drums that echo the heartbeat of machines, and arpeggios vortexing at the perfect tempo for staring at your shoes dancing alone at an after-hours club surrounded by other people doing the same, and all feeling this is their song. Amanda Siegel’s video also feels like she did her ’80s new wave music video research, blending flowers, a murky sense of Chinatown at night, a mysterious couple (actually Susan Subtract and his real-life wife), and Drab Majesty into a cool soup of saturated colors and cross-dissolve.
