Ears Wide Open: BOYO

BOYO is the latest incarnation of 20 year-old Robert Tilden. His former band, Bobby T. and the Slackers, had a good run in L.A.’s DIY circuit, but the new project reflects a shift in musical direction towards a fuzz-pop sound. Tilden started BOYO in 2015, after recovering from some issues with drugs and anxiety. His debut album, “Control,” came out this past August, but he’s already put out another EP, “Machines,” derived from sessions for his next full-length, which is due this summer on local label Danger Collective. In the meantime, he’s released a single, “Good as Gone,” that gives a good indication of the vibes that can be expected from his forthcoming album: dreamy, warped, lo-fi musings for pulling one’s head out of the clouds.
