Breaking Heights

L.A. trio Breaking Heights debuted in late 2015, getting “High” like nobody’s quite gotten high, and last week released their debut EP “Where We Are.” So where are they? The trio — producer Ozzy Doniz, rapper Bizoh and and singer-multi-instrumentalist Greg Cahn — are busy cross-pollinating. Breaking Heights inject deep grooves and a sprinkling of glitch-pop into a bed of lush, infectious psych-pop and top it off with rap verses. On some songs, like “Black Smoke,” hip-hop takes center stage; others, like the first single and “Don’t Wanna Love You,” rock before they rap. The trio mind their pop hooks, mind you, but their production, while meticulous, give you the sensation they were made by man, not machine. So “Where We Are” is in its own niche.
