“What does civilization mean when so many remain excluded from it, no matter what they do?” wonders Kevin Moultrie, aka KNXVES. The Bay Area artist, who fronted the band the Ten Thousand during his college days in Los Angeles, confronts the question in his new single, second in a series of four meditations on contemporary black life in America. As in the video for his previous single “Reasons Pt. 2,” the art-damaged visual for “Civilized” simply features Moultrie himself addressing the camera, and getting maximum impact out of his minimal sound.
