Julian Jasper’s “Wait Until Dawn” embraces the sunshine and isolation of the California dream in the way its breezy, top-down instrumental aspects rub up against Jasper’s mellow, casually disenchanted singing. The song appears on his debut EP, “2AM, Chinatown/I Don’t Mind,” coming out May 5 through Misra Records. Capturing a lifestyle of “trashed out decadence,” the EP reflects his experience as a guy born and raised in Southern California, from the plastic and overly suntanned world of San Diego, to living in the fantasy of Los Angeles, a sort of Neverland for the artistic type that finds relief from unpleasant realities through distraction, the ocean, and mischievous entertainment.
