Matthew Logan Vasquez returned to his home Southern California turf on Friday night, so his evening at the Bootleg Theater felt like a family affair. The Delta Spirit frontman, who last month released his second solo album in as many years, has called California, New York and now Texas home, so it was a time of smiling reminiscences as well as the songs from the new album “Does What He Wants” and 2016’s “Solicitor Returns.” Vasquez’s tuneful, weathered optimism went down easy as fans recalled the early days of Delta Spirit and the last time the band played here, 2015’s Outpost Fest. At the end, Vasquez apologetically told fans he wouldn’t have time to hang out after the show, so he could “spend some time with Pops.”
