Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand were weclomed back to Los Angeles like conquering heroes on Monday night at the Regent Theater and delivered a crisp, 14-song set of tunes from their fourth full-length, plus the new song “Huck & Jim.” Their L.A. date was their first since 2014 (not counting the 2015 Franz Ferdinand/Sparks FFS collaboration) and part of a North American tour showing off their new-look lineup.
It’s their first tour without guitarist Nick McCarthy, who departed the band last year, and with a five-piece lineup that includes new guitarist Dino Bardot and keyboardist Julian Corrie joining originals Alex Kapranos, Bob Hardy and Paul Thomson. And speaking of new-look, Kapranos, typically kicking, jumping and darting all over the stage, sported slicked-back hair and a leopard-print blazer. The songs, though, remain their insistent, danceable selves.
Atlanta quartet Omni opened the night.
Setlist: Jacqueline, Dark of the Matinee, No You Girls, Michael, Do You Want To, Walk Away, Love Illumination, Huck & Jim, Take Me Out, Ulysses, Always Ascending, Darts of Pleasure, This Fire
