Hot off our newswire:
► Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band will reunite and perform their first Los Angeles show since 2010 when they visit the Lodge Room on New Year’s Eve. Oberst, of course, has played L.A. many times since (including this May at the Greek Theatre), but this will be his first as part of the MVB sextet since a 2010 benefit at the Palladium and a 2009 date at Sunset Junction. Miwi La Lupa opens the NYE show. Tickets go on sale at noon Friday here.
► The GIRLSCHOOL collective, which has staged two annual female-first festivals at the Bootleg Theater, is launching a new inter-disclipinary night night called Idealab, starting Wednesday night. The opener features musician Amber Coffman, along with Kerstin Hovland, poet/editor Morgan Parker and trans activist Ashlee Marie Preston. It happens at the 3.1 Phillip Lim store. Info here.
► CHVRCHES, along with actor Justin Long, will host “A Holiday Variety Show” on Dec. 13 at the Fonda Theatre — a benefit for two charities, the Nicaragua-based Girls Home for abused kids and No Kid Hungry, which fights child hunger. Besides CHVRCHES, there will be musical performances by members of Computer Games, Death Cab For Cutie, Jenny Owen Youngs, MUNA and the Pierces, along with comedy from a host of performers and an appearance by Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls. Tickets on sale here at 10 a.m. Friday.
