Ears Wide Open: L.A. Law

L.A. Law

Yes, somebody decided to call their musical project L.A. Law and release an album titled “Law & Order.” No warrants have been issued (that we know of), but you will not be surprised to learn that it is a Burger Records release and, owing to the fact it’s a side project, Google searches barely turn up a whiff of the duo. The perpetrators are mad synth scientist Gabe Fulvimar (Gap Dream) and singer Jessie Jones (ex-Feeding People), who broke out with a solo album a couple of years ago. Funky, wonky and fun, “Law & Order” is Euro disco as imagined by video games, or vice versa. Jones’ vocals are powdered sugar, deliciously breathy on “Shivers” and singed lightly on “Crisco Inferno.” And like any decent procedural, “Law & Order,” released in December, is all tied up in under 40 minutes.
