L.A. quartet Parade of Lights struck gold with “Golden,” the ubiquitous (heard during the Winter Olympics, Super Bowl, etc.) single that anchored their 2015 album “Feeling Electric.” When you got beyond the singles, PoL weren’t totally a synth-pop band, but that song’s sugary rush, big hook and bigger chorus branded them as one. In the first two singles they’ve released since, “Victorious” and “Touch,” the electro bombast was dialed up to an FM radio-friendly 11, but not so with the new song “Tidal Waves,” out today. It’s a pulse-pounding (if commercially sleek) bit of shoegazing that reminds you there’s a rock band at work — one who can find just the right dynamic balance and still deliver a whopper of a chorus. “Tidal Waves” is due to appear on Parade of Lights’ forthcoming sophomore album later this year.
