After several years cultivating her sound around Los Angeles, producer-singer Callie Ryan is set to release her debut album, “Health,” on March 28 via local label Outside Insight. An exploration of emotions, the songs were written in the wake of a rough year in which Ryan dealt with family illness, fractured her collarbone in a car accident, lost friends in Oakland’s Ghost Ship tragedy and went through a break-up. She translated the experience into songs that deal with vulnerability in relationships of all kinds.

Steamy single “Paste” chronicles a transition Ryan experienced, moving from helplessness into confidence as a new love entered her life. The song’s video was directed by Amanda Kramer, founder of L.A. label 100% Silk and formerly half of Pocahaunted. Surrounded by plants and fruit, Ryan and two friends, Nia Aziz and Carrie Sun, move and interact with each other in a state of heavy bliss and aren’t even fazed when the table moves across the room by itself. For the scene, Ryan says she wanted to “create a safe space for three women to explore their sensuality, their feminine grounding, intuition, and gut instincts.”
