L.A.-born, New York-based musician, producer, label owner (GunkTVREcords) Zak Mering released his new album, “Mondo Combo,” last month under his musical moniker Raw Thrills via Winston Taylor Records. Influenced by ’60s pop and ’80s goth, it’s both messy and mellifluous. The video for the latest single, “Bad Dream Blues (featuring Sun Pack)” is directed by Niki Smith and filmed and edited by JAH and has a beachy, end-of-summer vibe.

Formerly working under the name Insted before moving to Brooklyn, Mering said, “We are trying to make fun pop music, just not with the typical aesthetics of pop.”

The album features collaborations with June Junior, Ariel Pink, Sun Pack, Weyes Blood (his sister Natalie Mering), Outer Limits Recordings, Geneva Jacuzzi, Christina Schneider, James Ferraro, and the Muppet Babies and covers of Propaganda’s “Duel,” John Maus’ “Maniac,” Human League’s “Almost Medieval,” and Siouxsie and the Banshees’ “Hong Kong Garden.”
