A long time coming from Desert Daze founder Phil Pirrone’s JJUUJJUU, the band’s debut LP, “Zionic Mud,” was released on April 13 by Dine Alone Records. Recorded over the past few years whenever possible, this psychedelic brain-melt of an album was built on bedroom loop experiments as well as live jams, including sessions with Vinyl Williams, Jeffertitti (The Entire Universe) and Mason Rothschild (Fever the Ghost). In the spirit of exploration, friends were invited to contribute remixes of the tracks as a companion release, with alternate versions created by J. Mascis, Liars, METZ, Jennylee and Autolux, among others.

To know what JJUUJJUU means to Pirrone, let your eyeballs be dissolved by the “Camo” video, directed by Micah Buzan, who makes visuals for the Flaming Lips, with additional animation and art by Brittany Penn. Pironne says, “A motorcycle ride into the cosmos where you lose your body and become one with everything is sorta what it’s like for me to play live in this group (when everything’s working, that is).”
