L.A. quintet Emerson Star have released their second single since announcing their deal with Wax Records and the intention of releasing a full-length later this year. That album could very well include some highlights from the EP they released in 2016, “Great Escaper,” but the two songs they’ve issued since show they aren’t just running in place. With its buoyant chorus, the new single “Pistol Grip” is an insistent, aching self-reprimand for not letting go of a toxic person. “The song is about being with someone for all the wrong reasons,” singer Shannon Inouye says. “When you know it’s bad for both of you, the relationship becomes a punishment in itself.”
