Rituals Of Mine

One fun thing a music nerd enjoys is digging up a song’s history, so thanks Rituals Of Mine (fka Sister Crayon) for enabling this writer to indulge in a little Google-tracing for “I’ll Always Be In Love With You.” The song was first performed in 1929 by Fred Waring’s Pennsylvanians for the radio picture, “Syncopation,” but it’s Titus Turner’s 1961 rendition that caught Terra Lopez’s ear and inspired the ROM cover. “The Titus Turner version is so passionate, so sad and striking,” says Lopez. “I got into singing as a kid by listening and studying artists like Smokey Robinson, Patsy Cline, Diana Ross and Elvis so it was really great to pay homage to that era with this song.” Recorded in one session with Wes Jones, who produced Rituals Of Mine’s debut album, “Devoted,” Lopez wanted to turn it into an electronic ballad for today’s listener. “I was so impressed by Wes’s production,” Lopez says, “and how he was able to keep the classic feel and vibe yet also incorporate modern elements to make it our own.”
