There is virtually no conduit for creativity that Israeli-born Nir Yaniv hasn’t pursued. Among them: The artistic polymath is an author (of science fiction), an editor (of sci-fi publications), a filmmaker, an actor, a storyteller, an illustrator/animator and musician. It’s the latter two that bring us here today, to watch and listen in wonder and awe to “The Voice Remains.”

The song is the title track of an album that Yaniv will release in June. The funky-proggy-playful tune is distinctive because it is composed using only two “instruments” — Yaniv’s vocals and drums (played by Israeli musician Karen Teperberg). About the music: Yaniv gets his inspiration vintage funk, ’70s prog-rock, soundtracks and old French animated films, not to mention the overall concepts of discovery and happiness. (Among his credits: writing and performing music for the dance production “Happiness Is Real.”)

And, yes, those bass, guitar and keyboard sounds are all Yaniv’s vocals. He utilized an audio effect called Manipulator, created by Polyverse Music, which enables him to tweak his voice and create lower and higher octaves and harmonies.

Meanwhile, there is the short film — animated and directed by Yaniv. “The Voice Remains” is the second in a series of visuals from the album, a whimsical episode about creatures on a desert planet and a visitation from a spaceship. What they’re saying thus far remains a mystery, but we suspect the voices will get clearer as the adventure continues.
